All about the job

Porirua City has an incredible network of walkways, tracks, mountain bike trails, coastline and green open spaces right on our doorstep.

You will be part of the team that maintains these spaces from vegetation control and maintenance of structures, e.g. timber steps, handrails, drainage channels and track surface to environmental restoration

In this role you will: 

  • Maintain our recreational track and coastal network to a high standard
  • Carry out vegetation control, including weed management (mechanical and chemical)
  • Assist with site preparation, planting and maintaining revegetation and restoration areas
  • Maintain structures such as steps, boardwalks, handrails and drainage systems
  • Help ensure parks and reserves are safe, welcoming and well presented
  • Provide friendly, positive and professional customer service excellence at all times

All about you

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on outdoor work and takes pride in caring for natural spaces. It will be fabulous if you have a can do attitude, and eye for detail, and experience with small plant and machinery. 

You’ll need to show us that you:

  • enjoy working outdoors in all weather and doing a hard day’s work.
  • have a clean full driver’s licence
  • can work independently and as part of a team
  • can work to a schedule and meet deadlines
  • have some experience operating small plant– e.g. weed eater, power barrow, hedge trimmer, chainsaw
  • have practical skills in basic construction or general DIY skills
  • understand safe work practices and can follow schedules and procedures
  • have the ability to meet the physical demands of the job.
  • take pride in delivering work that benefits the wider community
