Swim Instructor | Kaiako Kauhoe
Dash Swim School is looking for enthusiastic, reliable, and community-minded people to join our team of Swim Instructors at Cannons Creek Pool.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children, feels confident in the water, and wants to make a real difference. No previous teaching experience is required — we’ll provide all the training and qualifications you need. All you need to bring is a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to helping tamariki develop essential swimming and water safety skills.
Available hours
Hours vary between school terms and school holidays. Current shifts available are:
- Wednesday: 3:15 pm – 6:15 pm (3 hours)
- Saturday: 8:00 am – 12:00 pm (4 hours)
You’ll need to be available to work both shifts.
About the role
At Dash Swim School, our philosophy is simple: first we teach children to survive in the water, then we teach them to swim.
As a Swim Instructor | Kaiako Kauhoe, you’ll help the next generation gain confidence in the water while learning important water safety skills. Your responsibilities will include:
- Teaching learn-to-swim lessons in the pool, with up to 6 children per class
- Teaching school group lessons, with up to 10 children per class
- Creating a safe, positive, and engaging learning environment
- Teaching specific water safety skills and techniques
- Communicating with parents and caregivers about each child’s progress
- Delivering excellent customer service to families and the wider community
About you
We’re looking for someone who is positive, energetic, and great with children. You’ll be calm, encouraging, and confident in the water, with a genuine interest in helping young people learn.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Confidence working with children
- A calm, friendly, and engaging manner
- A positive, can-do approach to customer service
- The ability to follow structured lesson plans and motivate children to learn
- Reliability and a willingness to be part of a supportive team
Full training and qualifications are provided to all Dash Instructors.
Porirua City is a Living Wage accredited employer, and the starting rate for this role is $30.20 per hour.
